AMC has revealed when ‘The Walking Dead’ will return for Season Nine – NME.com

“We are proud to acknowledge Angela’s significant contribution to the series and to set a clear path forward for a ninth season under her direction.

Fans of The Walking Dead started a petition last month to get showrunner Scott M. Gimple fired.

AMC has revealed when The Walking Dead will return for a ninth season after the show’s controversial eighth series.

“Further, with gratitude and admiration, we also recognise Scott’s broad impact on, and leadership of, the content that fuels our TWD universe. Together, we will dream bigger and more broadly than ever before.”

The petition was triggered by fans getting upset over the decision in season eight to kill off Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs), son of main character Rick Grimes. Season eight also saw the show’s viewing figures slump, drawing below eight million US viewers for the first time in over five years.

Writer and co-executive producer Angela Kang has been promoted to take on the role, with season nine set to air in late 2018.
