Bridgwater’s Market Street and Dampiet Street car parks’ prices to increase by 25 per cent in bid to raise £25000 – Somerset Live

Councillors argued that the town suffers from congestion and roadworks, and that Market Street and Dampiet Street were both accessible car parks for many shoppers.

Labour councillor Mick Lerry said: #8220;Bridgwater has been hit by roadworks, congestion, and 14 per cent less footfall in our town centre as a result – so why this selective policy?

But Conservative councillor Duncan McGinty defended the parking increase, stating: #8220;Of course I have sympathy because no one likes increases in car park charges, but we have a policy of the user pays.

#8220;This targeted increase is unfair and the burden should be spread across the district.
