She chose the book Emma By Jane Austen, her luxury item was face cream and her songs included The Jackson Sisters’ I Believe In Miracles and Mr Brightside by The Killers.
She told Kirsty Young on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs: “A year at the Aubergine that was enough for me, I went down two dress sizes. But I love Gordon, what he did for me for my career is brilliant.”
In 1994, aged 26, she was taken under Gordon Ramsay’s wing at his Aubergine restaurant where she worked from seven in the morning until midnight, six days a week.
“Our food culture is about money,” she said. “When you haven’t got any money and you’re living on a low income, to patronise and say, ‘You’ve got to have an organic chicken’ is wrong.”
