The call came in late on Saturday night, Nov. 4, from Gaston Road, a stretch that Slanesville Deputy Chief David Bradfield called “notoriously slick.” A packed car was traveling southbound toward Virginia, Bradfield said. “They came around a curve and slid off and missed the bridge and slid into the river.”
