MIU staff were moved to the departments at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and the Worcestershire Royal in Worcester which were extremely busy from New Year’s Eve through to January 2.
HEALTH bosses say there are #8216;no current plans#8217; to close minor injuries units (MIUs) temporarily again to provide support to overstretched Aamp;Es.
Michelle Clarke, director of nursing and quality at Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, said: “Our MIUs are staffed with excellent nurses who are trained to treat a range of minor injuries and on average the waiting times in each site is often less than 30 minutes.”
All the county’s five MIUs (Kidderminster, Malvern, Evesham, Bromsgrove and Tenbury) are open as normal and are staffed with skilled and experienced staff who can treat a range of minor injuries.
Some of the units temporarily closed over the New Year Bank Holiday weekend as a short-term, emergency response to pressures at Aamp;E.
Worcestershire’s Minor Injury Units (MIUs) remain #8216;the place to go#8217; if you have non-emergency cuts, wounds, sprains, strains and minor burns says the Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust.
