Skin cancer treatment: Drug can stop spread of deadly disease –

Dr Justine Alford, senior science officer at Cancer Research UK said: #8220;This detailed study in cells and mice has expanded our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the spread of melanoma and, encouragingly, may have uncovered a way to target and thwart this process.

#8220;One reason the disease is so fatal is that it can spread throughout the body very quickly and attack distant organs such as the brain and lungs,” she said.

#8220;We could look for the activation of the MRTF proteins as a biomarker to determine risk, especially for those in early stage melanoma.#8221;

The study was published in Molecular Cancer Therapeutics.
