Surrey shatters filming record in 2016 – CBC.ca

Monk says if the Canadian dollar remains low, there is no reason why 2017 can#8217;t set a new film permit record.

#8220;It#8217;s been a remarkable year,#8221; said Surrey film liaison James Monk. #8220;Talking with my counterparts, I knew it would be a busy year but not as busy as this.#8221;

When Monk returned to work on Jan. 3 after a brief holiday, his voicemail was filled with messages from location scouts.

Last year was a record shattering year for Surrey#8217;s film industry as the city issued 170 film permits, a marked increase from the then-record 97 it handed out in 2015.

#8220;Some fairly big productions have already inquired about Surrey City Hall and some other productions have inquired about our libraries,#8221; he said.
